  • Item Summary:Artifact assemblage dedicated to U.S. Army Captain (CPT) Norman Richard Kidd, Jr. and comprised of: a handwritten envelope containing six (6) color photographic prints, two (2) personalized stationery cards, & two (2) personalized stationery envelopes. The photographic prints depict the wedding of CPT Kidd, Jr.'s daughter, "Diana" to her husband, "Stephen F. Foran", while the stationery cards bear handwritten notes addressed from the young couple to CPT Kidd, Jr. expressing their love, remembrance, and wishes to share the happy occasion with him. The artifact assemblage was left at The Wall by CPT Kidd, Jr.'s daughter Diana and her husband Stephen F. Foran on November 12, 1989.

  • Item Summary:Artifact assemblage dedicated to U.S. Air Force Major (Maj) Leonard Edward Niski and consisting of a Hallmark brand birthday card and a greeting card envelope. A handwritten dedication upon the interior card surface reads, "all my Love Mom / God bless you". Postal stamps upon the greeting card envelope indicate that the card was mailed to Maj Niski by his mother on, "MAY 9 [illegible] PM 1967", but that it was returned unclaimed to the sender on, "10 JUN 1967". A handwritten inscription from, "Douglas [?] Kimball, Capt" explains the unclaimed card and its return with the statement, "DECEASED / RETURN TO SENDER". The artifact assemblage was left at The Wall, presumably by the mother of Maj Niski [?], between July - September 1994.

THE OBJECT CONSISTS OF A GREETING CARD HOUSED INSIDE A SEALED, UNOPENED, RECTANGULARLY SHAPED, AMERICAN GREETINGS BRAND ENVELOPE COMPRISED OF PINK COLORED PAPER WITH A TRIANGULARLY SHAPED, ADHESIVE CLOSURE FLAP AT THE REVERSE OBJECT SURFACE. AN INSCRIPTION HANDWRITTEN IN BLUE INK AND BLOCK SCRIPT/ARABIC NUMERALS AT THE CENTER OF THE OBVERSE OBJECT SURFACE OF THE ENVELOPE READS, "GUYS OF 5/16 4TH DIV. / THE WALL". Items left at The Wall - The Virtual Collection

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1982. Shortly thereafter, visitors to the Memorial began leaving items in memoriam to those killed and missing service members listed on The Wall. These artifacts now collectively comprise the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Collection -- a museum collection of more than 400,000 items held in the public trust by the National Park Service. Today, this Collection is among the largest and most actively researched collections in the National Capital Region.

The Collection is jointly curated by National Mall and Memorial Parks and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF). The VVMF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies upon public donations to continue its work, and receives no federal funding.
