  • Item Summary:Color postcard dedicated to U.S. Air Force Captain (Capt) Ralph Wayne Brower. A handwritten inscription upon the postcard is addressed to Capt Brower, is signed, "Sincerely, / Matt Mirmak / Son of Maj Edward J Mirmak USAF", and reads, "My name is Matt Mirmak. / My dad, Ed Mirmak was in the Air Force w/ you. / My dad never got to thank you for keeping him in the service. / He thanks you with all love". The artifact was left at Panel W30 of The Wall by Matt Mirmak between June - July 1985.

  • Item Summary:Handmade fishing tackle box containing a length of white, braided twine fitted with a metal fishing swivel, as well as two (2) metal fishing hooks. Dried blood and organic residue inside the box indicates prior use of the item in the field in Vietnam. The artifact was left at The Wall along with five (5) color photographic prints (VIVE (870, 880, 882, 884, & 885), a black & white photographic print (VIVE (881)), an artifact assemblage (VIVE (883)), a sealed, unopened letter (VIVE (949)), & a fabric swatch (VIVE (970)) by an anonymous donor between June - July 1985.

THE OBJECT CONSISTS OF A LETTER HOUSED INSIDE A SEALED, UNOPENED, RECTANGULARLY SHAPED ENVELOPE COMPRISED OF PLAIN WHITE PAPER WITH A TRIANGULARLY SHAPED, ADHESIVE CLOSURE FLAP AT THE REVERSE OBJECT SURFACE. AN INSCRIPTION HANDWRITTEN IN BLACK INK AND BLOCK SCRIPT AT THE CENTER OF THE OBVERSE OBJECT SURFACE OF THE ENVELOPE READS, "WE WENT / WE DID / FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T COME BACK WE MISS YOU & WE WON'T FORGET / FTW". THE OBJECT IS ASSOCIATED WITH VIVE (870, 880 - 885, 965, & 970).

Items left at The Wall - The Virtual Collection

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated on November 13, 1982. Shortly thereafter, visitors to the Memorial began leaving items in memoriam to those killed and missing service members listed on The Wall. These artifacts now collectively comprise the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Collection -- a museum collection of more than 400,000 items held in the public trust by the National Park Service. Today, this Collection is among the largest and most actively researched collections in the National Capital Region.

The Collection is jointly curated by National Mall and Memorial Parks and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF). The VVMF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies upon public donations to continue its work, and receives no federal funding.
