Multimedia Requirements Our sites use various types of multimedia to present information to you. In order to fully experience these resources, you will need to have the following items installed for your particular browser. All of these items are FREE and available by clicking the buttons shown below.
In order to listen to the audio and video recordings, you will need a sound card, or sound capability installed in your computer along with either external or internal speakers OR the ability to plug in a set of headphones.
Let's start by providing you an overview of these products and how they are used on this site. Please note that all of these items are available for both PC and Mac computers and various operating systems.
Shockwave and Flash: Different areas of these sites were designed using Macromedia's Flash development software. This program gives us the ability to provide easier navigation and layouts then creating them strictly within an HTML context. The pages using the Shockwave technology are designed to detect whether or not you have the correct browser plug-in installed. If it detects that you don't, it will either be downloaded in the background (Internet Explorer) and installed, or you will be prompted, telling you (Netscape) that you need it. When going to the Macromedia site to obtain the plugin, download the Flash Player version.
RealPlayer : These sites contain numerous audio and video recordings for your viewing. These items can be viewed through the use of the RealPlayer plugin for your browser. You can use either RealPlayer V5.0 (if you already have it), or RealPlayer G2. When visiting the site to download RealPlayer, please note there are two versions - the FREE version and the G2 Plus version, which costs. All content on this site can be viewed using the FREE version.
Acrobat Reader : Adobe Acrobat Reader is used to view PDF (Portable Document Format) files. The documents on these sites are in PDF format. Using the Acrobat Reader, you can view the files both on- and off-line by downloading the document. It also has extensive printing control which allows you to print out the entire document or just a series of pages.
If you are not sure if you have these items for your computer and browser, are unsure of how to download and install them, or are positioned behind a firewall and security which prevents you from downloading these items, please contact your local technical support.
Computer Requirements These sites were designed to use the latest in internet technology available for internet development. There are numerous audio and video presentations available for viewing in the though out our sites, which necessitate a fairly powerful, and quick, system to handle to files.
For that reason, we recommend you have at least a 100 MHz+ speed Pentium class, or Macintosh PowerPC class computer system.
Depending upon your computer and operating system, we would also recommend at least 32 Megabytes of RAM (ramdom access memory). While your computer may 'operate' on less RAM, the multimedia content of this site will operate much smoother with additional memory installed. However, having less than 32 Megabytes of memory WILL NOT prevent you from using this site.
Browser Requirements We recommend you install at least a Version 4.0, or higher, of either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator/Communicator.
While there are numerous other browsers available to you over the Internet, the site was designed to work with these two. If viewing this site with earlier versions, you may lose some functionality and appearance.
Both of these browsers are free and available through the links provided to the right. If you are behind a firewall, or your network security is such you cannot download these browsers, please contact your network administrators for assistance. Connection Requirements These sites can be viewed by virtually any connection to the Internet starting at a 28.8K modem.
Because of the multimedia content and the file size of some of the documents, we recommend you have as fast a connection as possible to the Internet.
For viewing the documents and photos available here, the connection speed simply determines how long it takes you to download the files in order to view them. Regarding the multimedia content, reviewing and listening to the files, you may experience periods where the content will freeze on the screen while the computer waits for a sufficient amount of content to load on your computer. |
