Educating about the Vietnam War era

Through a variety of educational initiatives, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund
has been able to provide educators with the necessary tools and resources
to teach students about the lasting impact of the Vietnam War.

Echoes From The Wall

This curriculum kit was sent free of charge to every middle and high school in America. It provides students with historical information about the Vietnam War as well as an understanding of leadership, citizenship and character.

    Teach Vietnam Teachers Network

The Teachers Network comprises educators throughout the United States who serve as liaisons between the Memorial Fund, their community and state and local school systems. The Memorial Fund provides members with free educational materials and professional development opportunities.

    Echoes From The Mall

The field trip guide is intended to help teachers interpret the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for their students. A wide variety of suggested on-site and classroom activities offers educators a framework for exploring all elements of the Memorial.

    OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

In addition to those education programs listed above, the Memorial Fund offers teachers and students a variety of ways to get involved.

Host one of our traveling exhibits.
The Wall That Heals is a half-scale replica of the Memorial, a Museum and Information Center designed to "bring The Wall home" to communities throughout our country.  The Legacy of The Wall is a storyboard exhibit with vivid images, timelines and simple text which tell the story of the Vietnam War, The Wall and their lasting legacies.

Participate in a ceremony.  The Memorial Fund holds several ceremonies throughout the year at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  These events are open to the public and we encourage school groups to attend if they're in the Washington, D.C. area.  Additionally, teachers can have students create remembrances and/or cards for the Mother's Day, Father's Day and Christmas Tree ceremonies.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's education programs are supported, in part,
by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

    2008 TVTN Conference
