30th Anniversary of The Wall

2012 marks the 30th Anniversary of the completion of The Wall. The year will be filled with meaningful ceremonies and events that will commemorate the completion of the memorial, honor the legacy of American heroes, and help complete the campaign to fund The Education Center.

MEMORIAL DAY

On Memorial Day, more than 5,000 guests will gather at The Wall to pay tribute to members of America’s armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam and in all conflicts. This event will welcome remarks from top Aministration officials.

THE READING OF THE NAMES

For 65 hours over a four-day period, all of the names on The Wall will be read aloud, beginning with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 3:00 pm. The Reading of the Names has taken place just four other times in The Wall’s history. In November 1982, the names were read aloud at Washington National Cathedral as part of a week-long National Salute to Vietnam Veterans. The names were read at The Wall during the 10th Anniversary celebration in November 1992, during the 20th Anniversary celebration in 2002 and during the 25th Anniversary celebration in 2007.

VETERANS DAY

Each year on Veterans Day, thousands of veterans and their families congregate at The Wall to remember and to honor those who served. On these special days, prominent Americans from all walks of life come to the Memorial to deliver thoughtful and patriotic speeches.

BUILD THE CENTER BENEFIT GALA

On Thursday, November 8, 2012, Members of the Armed Forces, veterans, Members of Congress, Cabinet and Administration officials, leadership of VVMF, celebrities and other honored guests will gather at the Mellon Auditorium for the Build The Center Benefit Gala. The theme of this important and elegant event will provide an opportunity to recognize and honor veterans and those currently serving and raise the remaining funds needed to complete The Education Center.
