If you are able, save from them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places no longer go be not ashamed to day you love them. Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keepit with your own and in that time and when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane take one moment to embrace those gentale heroes you left behind......We Nam Brothers pause to backward glance and post this rememberance to you on of the gentle officers LT. BYRNES lost to the war in Nam Slip off that pack set it down by the crooket trail shed those magazine-ladened bandoliers away from you and lay that silent weapon down and step out of the heat feel the soothing breeze right down to your soul and Lt Byrnes rest forever in the shade of our love ..our thoughts and best wishes to your wife your mother and father and brother .....from your Nam-Nam-Band of brothers 196/2505 inf abn 67/68 we all do remember the day of feb 9 1968 thank you for saving all of us

So many days,so many nights we spent together. I went to Nam first then you made it... You came later, after I was gone, and died there. To your new wife, mother, father, and your little brother, I want them to know I think of them every day and wish the very best for them. I miss you Lt. Scottie Byrnes. God bless your family. May they love the freedom you died for. I now have a photo of you to show my family the hero who saved our lives.
