Thank you so much serving our country. Even though I never knew you personally I do know that you are an amazing person. I wish I could have met you. We even have the same birthday. I'm glad that I chose to write to you.

Thanks very much. I never saw a photo of Boris in his uniform. I never met Boris, who was the only child of my late Father’s first early marriage to Velta Franz. I never met Boris and I was a small child when my father learned of his death by reading the news in the New Orleans morning paper. The exact words he used were: “ That’s a name that I will
never see in print again.” I think I was about 6 years old and it left a lasting impression on me. At that point I had never heard of Boris Borenstein and I was quite surprised and maybe a little bewildered to learn that I had missed out on the chance to meet my older half brother, who I never even knew existed. I always assumed that Boris’s mother never remarried or had any more children. I also assumed that he died childless, since he was so young when he died. My father was born in 1919, and his first wife was about the same age and would be 98 years old now. I think it’s very likely that she is no longer living.
    Thanks for making this memorial.

Boris was killed the night of 11/25/67 when the patrol we were on was ambushed by VC. They hit us with small arms fire and grenades. Two casualties, Boris was KIA and another Marine was WIA. We must have got some of them from the blood trails left.
