    Dear Daddy,
    Thank you for sending Doc Joe to us. From him we finally learned of the heroic action you took to try to save Doc Bembenek and the soldier who tripped the mine. We have also learned of the two medal recommendations. I am going to do everything I can to see that you are awarded those medals.
    From your family you already have the most important medal - our everlasting love and respect for being a loving family man and fine human being.

    Mike you were a good friend in 1962 at Recruting School. Met you again in Vietnam with the 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Chu Chi Vietnam. I went to see you at Graves Registration. I will never gorget you my friend.
