Dear SGT Michael Ralph Manno, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

    Curt Carter
  • I remember Michael

I remember Michael when he used to walk up my block in Brooklyn (19th Street). He would hang out with the guys on the corner. The guys were Robert V(who always had lots of friends and brought them to the block), Sid C, tall Sammy, and a few others (can't remember all their names anymore), but I think Michael also sang with them. They used to sing doowop, but mostly, 'Gloria' was the song I heard them sing the most often. Michael seemed to be the sweetest boy ever. He had an air of humbleness and kindness about him.

I was very saddened to hear of his death. If I would've known sooner than I did, I would've attended his funeral. May God bless him and his family, and may he rest in heavenly peace. He surely gave the best of himself, his very life.

I "hung out" with Mike in Bklyn. Mike was already in Nam when I was drafted. He died before I went to Nam. I was home on leave during his funeral. I had my orders for Nam.......gave him a salute with my eyes full of tears when his hearst passed the corner of 21st & 6th one last time. That is where we "hung out".
    You will always be remembered........Tony
