    DEAR SPEC 4 BECKER,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AS A GRUNT. IT BUGS ME THAT YOU DIED NEAR YOUR BIRTHDAY, NOT THAT ANY TIME WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. SIGH. THE CHRISTMAS SEASON IS OVER, AND IT IS A NEW YEAR, WHICH MAKES IT FAR TOO LONG FOR YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU HAVE DONE, AND YOUR SACRIFICE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE.. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE SAINTS AND ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE.

Dear SP4 Walter Ward Becker, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

    With respect, Sir

    Curt Carter

Dear Walter, thanks to the article published in the Orange County newspaper to honor the 28 heroes of Orange County who made the supreme sacrfice in the Vietnam War and some of the photos furnished to me by the retired Chief of Police of Orange County, TX, Sam Kittrell, it is my extreme honor to be able to upload your photo to your profile so that it will be proudly displayed on your birthday each and every year when the VVMF Education Center is built. It is with great pride and humility that I post this remembrance and I do so to honor you and your memory and the sacrifice you made for our country. You are not forgotten and remain in many hearts all these years later. You have been designated to be one of God's special angels, along with the love of my life, who also sacrificed his life during this war 45 years ago. God Bless You, Walter, for being who you were and for all you did--we live in freedom to this day thanks to heroes like you.

The Wall of Faces

Brought to you by the organization that built The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Virtual Memorial Wall is dedicated to honoring, remembering and sharing the legacies of all those who died in the Vietnam War. Here you can go beyond the names on The Wall to see the faces, share the stories and read the remembrances posted by friends, neighbors, classmates and family members.

All of these photos will be showcased in The Education Center at The Wall on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. To learn more about the effort to collect these photos and ensure their faces will never be forgotten, visit www.buildthecenter.org.
