    DEAR PFC BASS,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AS A GRUNT. A FRIEND'S BROTHER WAS ALSO LOST IN PHUOC LONG. SAY HI TO MIKE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE. ADVENT IS HERE, AND CHRISTMAS IS APPROACHING. WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU. THE NEW YEAR IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER, WHICH MAKES IT FAR TOO LONG FOR YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE SAINTS AND ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE.

Thank you PFC Bass for your leadership and exemplary courage under fire.
  • Jackie, I didn't even know you were in-country much less so close to where I was.

You were the All American kid, solid, all ways kind to others, a great teammate on the football team( you know I didn't play, everyone said so though) just the kind of kid a guy would hope his daughter would marry. It hurts me that you weren't in-country long enough to get your bearings and I've had quite the time trying to find out what happened. So far no joy. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I found out about you by picking up a Life. Isn't that something, there we are both in Vietnam, didn't know it and I find out about you through a magazine. Tell ya what tho man, in one respect I kinda envy you this, you will Always be remembered as that good lookin kid! Jackie, I'm sorry I wasn't with you, I'm sorry I didn't know. It just sucks is what it does. When its my time, if you're available, say hey when I pass by. I'll sure look for you.

Dear PFC Jackie Dennis Bass, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

    Curt Carter

The Wall of Faces

Brought to you by the organization that built The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Virtual Memorial Wall is dedicated to honoring, remembering and sharing the legacies of all those who died in the Vietnam War. Here you can go beyond the names on The Wall to see the faces, share the stories and read the remembrances posted by friends, neighbors, classmates and family members.

All of these photos will be showcased in The Education Center at The Wall on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. To learn more about the effort to collect these photos and ensure their faces will never be forgotten, visit www.buildthecenter.org.
