Thank you Doc Hale for your courage and for your devotion to your Marines.
  • I did not know you...

...but I have come across your picture and small bio on a remembrance wall at Cedar Cliff High School. I am drawn to you and would like to know more about you because your resemblance to my son, now a junior at Cedar Cliff High School, is uncanny. You look EXACTLY like my son! I must say, it is rather unnerving. If anybody reading this knew Mr. Hale and would like to help me in my search for information about him, please email me. Thank you Ralph David Hale II for the greatest sacrifice. Forty seven years after your death, I find myself mourning for you, and I didn't even know you.

Bucky, we joined the Navy on the buddy system you were a great friend and I think of you almost daily. I was at the dedication of the wall and have visited your name regularly. They have you listed as not knowing where you were killed. Your mother told me you were near Soc Trang. She said you were transporting civilians to a medical facitlity and was hit by an ambush. I still have your responses to my letters, while you were in country. I wish you were here to share memories of those days long gone by. I miss you and your great humor. A friend always.

Dear HM3 Ralph David HaleII, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

    Curt Carter
