1LT Michael P. Austin, B Company, 299th Engineer Battalion, and SP4 Darrell W. Cowan, 610th Engineer Company, were killed in action on February 2, 1971. The two men were in a jeep when a detail repairing a bridge was ambushed on Highway QL-21 in the vicinity of Khanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa Province, RVN. The jeep was hit by a B-40 rocket, killing both men. SP4 Cowan was standing in the back of the jeep behind a M60 machine during the attack. A sign with their names was later placed on the bridge by the military in their honor. The Wall of Faces

Brought to you by the organization that built The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Virtual Memorial Wall is dedicated to honoring, remembering and sharing the legacies of all those who died in the Vietnam War. Here you can go beyond the names on The Wall to see the faces, share the stories and read the remembrances posted by friends, neighbors, classmates and family members.

All of these photos will be showcased in The Education Center at The Wall on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. To learn more about the effort to collect these photos and ensure their faces will never be forgotten, visit www.buildthecenter.org.
