MSGT James W. Finzel, a U.S. Army Special Forces member, was a part of Recon Team Moccasin, Command and Control North (CCN), located at Da Nang, the C&C facility which controlled the operations of reconnaissance teams in Laos. On March 6, 1970, MSGT Finzel was at the beach near Da Nang with at least two other U.S. personnel when he reportedly drowned while swimming there. His remains were recovered. [Taken from macvsog.cc]

The picture was provided by Herb Reckinger Jr. of Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Thank you Herb!

James, it is with great humility, pride and honor that Herb and I post this remembrance for you and upload your photo so that your memory and the sacrifice you made for your country will never be forgotten and to ensure your photo will be displayed on your birthday each and every year when the Education Center is completed. You are not forgotten and remain in the hearts of many after all these years. Thank you James for being who you were and for all you did. We live in freedom to this day thanks to heroes like you that answered the call to duty.

You were one of the brave that answered the call. You honored us by your service and sacrifice. We now honor you each time we stand and sing the words “THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE”. Rest in Peace and Honor James.

The Wall of Faces

Brought to you by the organization that built The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Virtual Memorial Wall is dedicated to honoring, remembering and sharing the legacies of all those who died in the Vietnam War. Here you can go beyond the names on The Wall to see the faces, share the stories and read the remembrances posted by friends, neighbors, classmates and family members.

All of these photos will be showcased in The Education Center at The Wall on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. To learn more about the effort to collect these photos and ensure their faces will never be forgotten, visit www.buildthecenter.org.
