    Dear Cpl Gary Dowell,
    Thank you for your service as a CH-34 Gunner. We remember all you who gave their all. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

  • Final Mission of CPL Gary L. Dowell

    On October 27, 1965, twelve aircraft from Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364 (HMM 364) along with HMM-362, took part in a strike/troop lift in support of the 7th Marines in Quang Tin Province, RVN. Four aircraft were hit by small arms fire in the supposedly secure pickup zone. CPL Gary L. Dowell, the gunner in aircraft YK-6, a UH-34D (#147200), was fatally wounded as a result of this fire.
