Barbara Lilly served in Vietnam from March 1968 to March 1969 as an American Red Cross recreation worker and was stationed at Phan Rang, Lai Khe, Cam Ranh and II Field Forces.
She is currently the voluntary specialist at the Denver VA Medical Center, where she is responsible for all aspects of the volunteer program at the hospital and oversees the activities of approximately 500 volunteers. She is also responsible for planning special events, which include the annual POW ceremony and the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week. She works closely with the in-patient PTSD program and the Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)/Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) program for veterans returning from the current conflicts. Lilly is well-versed in the issues facing veterans who suffer from PTSD and has become a valuable ally to the staff of the OIF/OEF program who need resources for veterans of those conflicts.
Lilly has worked for the federal government for almost 14 years, both for the U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Veterans Affairs. She has volunteered for the Vietnam Women's Memorial Project for almost 13 years.
